Courses:

Econ 101: Introduction to Microeconomics

This course is devoted to the analysis of interactions of three economic agents: consumers, producers and government. The emphasis is going to be on decision making processes of these agents and how their decisions affect the markets. We are going to construct simple models of market and analyze different economic phenomenon in the framework we developed. Course topics include but are not limited to international trade, government policies, competition, monopoly, and asymmetric information.

Econ 238: Law and Economics

This course is devoted to the analysis of legal problems with formal economic reasoning. We discuss issues such as property law, contract law, tort law etc. in relation to two main economic criteria: efficiency and feasibility. The focus of this course is not on legal rules per se, but on legal mechanisms that would result in desirable consequences.

Econ 355: Industrial Organization

In this course, we develop a framework that will enable us to understand the reasons of strategic firm behavior and its consequences regarding the structure of industry and social welfare. We study firm strategies such as strategic price setting, advertisement, R&D, bundling different goods etc. We analyze consequences of these behaviors and the main criterion we use when we judge desirableness of a certain strategic choice is the good old concept of efficiency. Calculus is one of the course requirements and we use calculus very often. Students write a term paper as a part of the course completion requirements.
