Assistant Professor of Economics
I
teach courses in
Microeconomics, Finance, and Behavioral Economics here at Vassar
College. I'm also
the author of the best seller
Economics for Dummies, which is now available in Spanish, German,
Dutch, Polish, Chinese and Russian
as well as English.
My main research focuses on how investor
sentiment and other non-rational factors affect asset prices and
investor behavior. I also write about trade unions and have a very
interesting on-going project about tipping behavior in restaurants.
I received my Ph.D. in Economics from the
University of California at Berkeley, completing my thesis under the direction of J.
Bradford DeLong, David Romer, and Nobel Laureate George Akerlof. I also hold bachelors and masters degrees
in Economics from the University of Southern California.
My hobby is the Japanese martial art of
aikido, which I have taught since 1995. I am currently a member of the
US national sports aikido team and am the author of
Understanding Shodokan Aikido. Please visit the
Vassar Aikido Club website.
