Some Typos and Comments Aleks Yankelevich bh11196 bh11196@binghamton.edu
I've read the appendix and first three chapters of this book quite intently and found it a very pleasurable experience. I highly recommend this book for anyone interested in delving into higher economics. Below are a few typos I've come upon and a few places where I felt it was prudent to comment.
1. p. 481 (P.3) the subscript on z in (f12/f11)z1 should be z2 instead.
2. p. 497 Something about the explanation of multivariate constraint second order Bordered Hessian seems confusing and I can't put my finger on it. I had to consult "Mathematical Methods for Economics" Klein - Second Edition, to understand what you were saying.
3. p. 4 bottom paragraph - is it me or is the definition you give of preference relation really confusing?
4. p. 9 bottom of second paragraph - change hall to ball and the footnote on the same line looks confusing with the dot between the 0 superscript and the 1 footnote
5. p. 12 second line - instead of x1 did you mean x2 since you used the word "extreme", implying large, not small. If this is changed you also need to adjust x2 to x1 in the next sentence
6. p. 30 third paragraph - there is a missing t in yt = y + (1-t)y2
7. p. 39 (E.7) There is an (x2 with p superscript) in the first equation for x2, where it should not be.
8. p. 40 first paragraph of proof of theorem 1.8: does U = [u(0), u bar)] indicate the case of a finite or infinite possible u bar, or are the two brackets a typo?
9. p. 90 Toward middle of the page, where it says u(x0) > u(x1), vector notation is omitted for x1 when it shouldn't be.
10. p. 99 second line - in qi ~ ai, a was written with a superscript instead of a subscript
11. p. 106 I think you mixed up the definitions of ordinate and abscissa. The ordinate should be the "y" coordinate or u(w) and abscissa should be w on graph below
12. p. 133 Second and third line should say y2 instead of y1.
I hope these very minor mistakes don't discourage anyone from buying this book. They don't detract from its content in the least.
Thanks
Aleks Y.
